The installation needs compatible inverter and battery equipment, protected wiring and clearly identified backup circuits. Critical loads should be separated where necessary so high-demand appliances do not exhaust storage or overload the system.
Battery state of charge at the start of an outage matters. A reserve can protect backup capacity, while daily solar generation can reduce grid use. The right operating strategy depends on how often outages occur and which loads cannot stop.

What solar backup system do I need for my house in Uganda?
Choose from the essential loads and required backup hours. Include fridge starting current and all appliances that run together. We size the inverter for power and the battery for stored energy.
Can solar automatically take over when grid power goes off?
A compatible hybrid inverter with battery storage and correctly wired backup circuits can transfer to backup automatically. Transfer time and which circuits remain powered depend on the model and installation.
How long will a 5kWh lithium battery power my house?
There is no single duration. For illustration, 4kWh of usable battery energy × 90% conversion efficiency ÷ a 500W average load gives about 7.2 hours without charging. This assumes usable energy and efficiency; actual settings, losses and cycling loads change runtime.
Can I use a solar backup system without panels?
Some compatible inverter-and-battery systems can provide grid-charged backup before panels are added. Confirm the model, settings and future panel design. Without panels the system does not generate solar electricity or solar savings.
Can the battery charge from the grid?
Compatible hybrid inverters can charge a battery from grid electricity when enabled and correctly configured. Charging times, current limits, battery reserve and tariff costs should be planned.
Can solar run my fridge during a power cut?
Yes, with an inverter and battery sized for the fridge’s energy use and compressor starting load. Include other essential appliances in the same calculation.
Can TV, Wi-Fi, lights, CCTV and refrigeration share one system?
Yes, provided their combined demand, starting loads and required runtime fit the selected equipment. We can prioritize these loads on a backup circuit.
What happens when electricity comes back?
The inverter follows its configured operating mode and may resume grid supply or battery charging. Solar priority, grid use and battery reserve depend on the design and settings.
Is solar backup better than a generator?
Battery backup is quiet at the point of use and avoids fuel consumption while discharging. A generator can suit long outages or high loads if fuel and maintenance are available. Solar, storage and a compatible generator can also be combined; compare load, runtime, costs and operating needs.
Installation, warranty and support across Uganda
Our technical base and physical showroom are in Mbiko near Jinja. We supply and install across Uganda; transport and mobilization depend on the project location. The written quotation confirms equipment, roof mounting, cabling, protection, earthing, installation, testing and commissioning.
Santana Solar provides a 5-year system and installation warranty, subject to applicable equipment and warranty conditions, with local technical and after-sales support. Equipment-only purchases have their own applicable written warranty.
