Lithium or lead-acid for solar?
Lithium systems can provide more usable storage, longer cycle life and lower routine maintenance than many lead-acid alternatives, but the comparison depends on the exact products and conditions. Initial cost, usable energy, warranty and system compatibility should be considered together.
Cycle life refers to specified test conditions. It does not directly state the number of years a battery will last in your installation. Depth of discharge describes the portion of stored energy used; the permitted level and warranty conditions are model-specific.
Capacity, voltage and usable energy
kWh measures stored energy. kW measures power delivered at one time. Two batteries with similar energy can have different discharge limits. Nominal energy is not all usable after reserve settings, permitted discharge and conversion losses.
“48V system” is a broad system class, not permission to mix any battery. Match the exact voltage range, BMS protocol and firmware. Our catalogue also contains different-voltage batteries and high-voltage modules; these need their own compatible complete configurations.
Choose battery storage from backup hours
Estimate the average load in kW, multiply by required hours, then allow for usable capacity, conversion losses and reserve. For illustration, a 500W average load for six hours needs 3kWh delivered to the appliances; nominal battery capacity must be higher to account for these allowances.
Homes may prioritize fridge, lights and internet. Businesses may need refrigeration, computers, CCTV or other critical equipment. Solar generation and charging availability determine how the bank is replenished.

Only when the exact battery and inverter support the proposed expansion and its electrical protection. Check manufacturer guidance, firmware, age-mixing rules and warranty first.

Our technical base and physical showroom are in Mbiko near Jinja. We supply and install across Uganda; transport and mobilization depend on the project location. The written quotation confirms equipment, roof mounting, cabling, protection, earthing, installation, testing and commissioning.
Santana Solar provides a 5-year system and installation warranty, subject to applicable equipment and warranty conditions, with local technical and after-sales support. Equipment-only purchases have their own applicable written warranty.
